Last week, the March Pixel feature drop introduced 5G support for Airtel and Jio users of Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in India. Now, 5G support is also available for users of Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in India, even though the official launch of these phones in India has not yet taken place. The March Android security patch has also been rolled out for the Pixel 6a along with the update.
After months of testing and collecting user feedback during the beta stage, the update with the 5G option (enabled by default) has been released. The above screenshot shows the result of this effort. With the update, users can now access 5G connectivity by enabling it in the networking settings, alongside the existing LTE and 3G networking options.
It is indeed interesting that Google has rolled out 5G support for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in India, despite not officially launching these models in the Indian market. In contrast, the only Pixel device launched in India from the last gen lineup was the Pixel 6a, which is now receiving the update with the March Android security patch. With the new update, users of Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro can expect significantly faster data speeds compared to the previous generation networking standard.

It is noteworthy that Google’s 5G availability page does not include information about 5G support for the Pixel 5 series or the Pixel 4a 5G model in India, as these models are not officially available in the country. Like the Pixel 6 lineup, these older smartphone models were also not officially launched in India.
