This must be a great news for the disappointed owners of the HTC Desire handsets. Earlier, we’ve been informed that HTC was not supposed to bring the Gingerbread update for HTC Desire S owing to the memory issues, and low hardware internals. But, it looks like the Gingerbread update is going to happen. HTC has changed its mind and has officially announced on HTC UK’s Facebook page that the Desire S handsets’ owners will be getting an official update of the latest Google Android Gingerbread OS version. In a related news, HTC Romania account has also confirmed about the Gingerbread update for Desire S on its Twitter account. There’s still no word on when the HTC Desire Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will be rolling out.
In fact, HTC has planned to roll out the Gingerbread update to their HTC Desire line in the second quarter, but got delayed, and came up with some shocking news on yesterday that there wasn’t enough memory on board for the HTC Desire to run Gingerbread along side the HTC Sense. But Custom ROM users have already been rocking the Gingerbread upgrade for months. As the manufacturer has planned to cancel the Gingerbread update for Desire S stating that "there isn’t enough memory to keep the HTC Sense experience”, we are guessing that the HTC Sense UI will be made a lighter than the one that is currently shipped with the Desire handsets.
HTC UK Facebook’s statement about the Gingerbread Update For Desire:
Contrary to what we said earlier, we are going to bring Gingerbread to HTC Desire.
