If you own a HTC Desire smartphone, this is probably some real bad news for you. We first brought you the news that the HTC Desire along with Desire Z and Desire HD would get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in Q2 2011. Then we followed up it with the news that HTC Desire HD finally got the Gingerbread update last month along with the HTC Incredible S which made Desire users to be hopeful of getting the Gingerbread update soon. But all these hopes evaporated when HTC announced that it won’t be rolling out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original Desire handsets forever.
HTC has announced this news through their official HTC Facebook page. They stated that they had been working hard for months to find a way to bring the Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense UI experience. Unfortunately all those efforts are in vain as the device won’t be able to fit the Android Gingerbread update owing to the low internal memory with which it is shipping. The engineers simply couldn’t find a way to accommodate both the Gingerbread version and HTC Sense UI along. We know this news will let the Desire owners down a bit, but it should also be noted that there are numerous unofficial Gingerbread ROMs available at the Xda forums (including the CM7) for the Desire handsets.
