In late September, Verizon has started pushed out the Gingerbread update 2.11.605.3 for HTC Thunderbolt handset, but Verizon has realized that the update was carrying a few bugs broking voicemail notifications and then Verizon pulled the update without releasing any official explanation. Just a few days ago, we brought you the leaked RUU version of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Verizon branded HTC Thunderbolt handset, bringing the build number 2.11.605.5, which can be flashed by everyone including non-rooted users. Now it looks like the official update is set to roll out again by Verizon and returning with a new Gingerbread update bearing the same build number v2.11.605.5, which has leaked earlier. We can also see an updated support PDF page is live on Verizon’s official update. The new update brings the fixes for major security vulnerability and the random SMS message sessions. Owners of the Thunderbolt device have been more-than-frustrated due to that security vulnerability issues. Thanks for the fix now. It’s good news for Tbolt owners that are getting itchy waiting for Android 2.3 to come to their handsets. The update is carrying the all the features that were set to roll out along with the previous build 2.11.605.3 and it will include the following fixes and enhancements.

The Android Gingerbread update for Thunderbolt is 146.369MB. To pull the OTA update in manual process, HTC Thunderbolt owners should move over to “Menu” > “Settings” > “About Phone” > “Settings” > “System Updates” > and tap the Status or Check New button–> wait for some to finish the downloading process –> Tap Install button –> Installation should start now –> Handset Reboots Automatically –> Tap the OK button on screen –> Follow the on-screen instructions until the process to get finished –> Done. The Gingerbread piece of cake should be ready now to taste on your handset. After finishing the installation of the update, the software version should be shown as 2.11605.5.
