In late 2010, MetroPCS has launched the Huawei Ascend smartphone pre-installed with Android 2.1 Eclair OS. The Huawei Ascend handsets owners desperately want to get some Android Froyo love now. Here it is. The carrier has rolled out the Android 2.2 Froyo OS update for the Huawei Ascend (HW-M860) handsets. Users can also update their handsets using the manual process by downloading the required file from the carrier’s update.
The Changes To Take Place After Upgrading To Android 2.2 Froyo:

# Ability to store and run non-forward locked apps on the SD card.
# Improved voice search, voice dial over Bluetooth and voice navigation.
# Enhanced UI, Improved news & weather widgets.
# Enhanced Swype feature, Predictive Text.

# The number of home screens will reduce form 9 to 5.
# No more internal memory for storage of pictures & videos.
How To Download
Process 1:
Search and download the ‘Ascend Software update’ app from MetroPCS Android app market. Launch the app after completing the installation of app. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the update. The upgrade process may take up to 8-10 minutes.
Process 2:
Download the M860B617dload.zip ( Link Removed ) file and extract it. Here you can update your Ascend handset using a computer, by transferring the extracted file over to the phone and installing it. Refer the source link at below for full-fledged instruction about the Android 2.2 Froyo update.
Update: Unfortunately, the Froyo update is now unavailable, because MetroPCS took the Froyo update down, but they are currently working to fix the issue, and they will come back with the update as soon as possible.
Process 3:
Do you think above two process are tricky? Then you should immediately head over to a nearby MetroPCS store, and the store employee will upgrade your handset to Android 2.2 Froyo.
Don’t forget to take a full back up before you proceeding to upgrade your handset and note that the micro-SD card should have at least 512MB of free space. the carrier has referred that this update will not work on the of Huawei Ascend Tapout Edition (HW-M860SE). The upgrade will remove all Tapout content on this handset.

As of right now 6/14/2011 at 8:30, MetroPCS took the update down (problems with downloading the update).
The link for the download process for the Huawei Ascend Froyo 2.2 Update aparently does not work and I am asking, where can I download it ?
I was told they can do it at the stores. I went yesterday and the guy said he doesn’t have the “card” to do it, but one of the others stores could do it. And he said it could really screw the phone up doing it ourselves so maybe that’s why they took it down? To iron out the bugs I’m guessing.

Will the Froyo 2.2 upgrade erase my call history and text messages????
Can anyone tell me how to back up my contacts and pictures to my sd card so that I can get the update without losing all my stuff?
I did the upgrade with the computer and this was about 5 hours ago and I have had since that white screen that says HUAWEI. I’ve even tried to remove the battery and restart it and its still on that screen. Does anyone know what could have gone wrong?

connect ur phone to the computer leave it there download whatever is need ed and follow directions givent when u done downloading dont txt or talk on the phone u will have to restart
