Apple has released the fourth beta versions of the upcoming iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 updates to developers for the purpose of testing. This software follows the third beta release by one week. In addition to releasing iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 beta 4 for developers, Apple is also making this software update and other updates available to users who are registered in the Apple Beta Software Program.
Developers who have registered can download the iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 updates wirelessly once they have installed the appropriate profile from the Developer Center. In the future, beta updates will no longer require a profile and can be performed directly on the device using an Apple ID that is linked to a developer account.
The update can be installed over-the-air by navigating to the Settings app, selecting General, and then selecting Software Update. Today’s update has a build number of 20E5239b.

With the release of iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4, users will have access to new emoji characters. These include the shaking head, pink heart, light blue heart, donkey, moose, jellyfish, hyacinth, ginger, black bird, and more. In total, there are 31 new emoji, and several skin tones are represented with left and right hand options.
Safari Web Push notifications are a convenient new feature that has been added to iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4. This feature allows users to receive notifications from websites they have added to their Home Screen on their device, just like on a Mac. These notifications are similar to other iOS notifications and behave in the same way. Overall, this feature makes it easier for users to stay informed about updates and events from their favorite websites.
In addition to the Safari Web Push notifications feature, iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 also include several other improvements. Third-party browsers, such as Chrome, now allow users to add websites and web apps to their Home Screen. Additionally, Apple has reintroduced the HomeKit architecture upgrade, which provides users with more control over their smart home devices.
Other updates include changes to Podcasts, minor updates to Apple Music, new options for Shortcuts, and the reintroduction of the page turning animation for Apple Books. A full list of new features in iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 can be found in the features guide.
Based on the progress of the beta testing, it is likely that iOS 16.4 will be released to the general public in the coming weeks. Brazilian carrier Claro has announced that they have been working with Apple to enable 5G standalone for iPhone owners with the release of iOS 16.4 later this month. This feature will allow iPhone users to access the full potential of 5G networks and experience faster download and upload speeds, improved latency, and other benefits.
