Today, Redmond based Windows Phone platform developer, Microsoft Corporation says that Windows Phone sales are about four times what they were at the same point last year.
In shareholders’ meeting, Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer stated “Windows Phone 8 has been on sale for a few weeks and is off to a great start. Handsets made by HTC Corp. (2498) and Nokia Oyj (NOK1V) “are getting rave reviews and have initially sold out in many countries.” He also acknowledge the fact that the sales went up because of the competing hardware of Windows Phone 8 devices.
Just after Microsoft launched their Window Phone 8 Operating System on October 29 in San Francisco, several mobile manufacturers including HTC and Nokia had released their flagship devices including HTC Windows phone 8X, 8S, Nokia Lumia 820, 920 and the devices were sold out while in pre-order in most countries.
Microsoft has been counting on its new mobile OS Windows Phone 8 as a means to get a piece of the ever growing market which is largely dominated by Google and Apple. Nokia is also gabling on Microsoft’s new OS to revive its status in the mobile market. Nokia was the top manufacturer of Mobile devices 5 years back until iPhone and Android.
The gambling seems to be paying off this time after failures earlier. The Nokia Lumia 920 has been accepted by the consumers and its hardware is compelling enough to choose it over any other popular device. HTC on the other hand has also been doing well. Its Windows Phone device like the HTC Windows Phone 8X has also been very successful.
This is definitely a good news for consumers too as the competition is going up and competition is good for us. On the other side, recently Windows Phone 8 users complained about their issues with random reboots on their respective Mobile forums. Later Microsoft assured that the problem will be fixed in an OTA update due release in December. Well problems do occur and hope that they are rectified sooner than expected.
