It was initially assumed that the Motorola Edge 40 would be revealed in tandem with the Edge 40 Pro, but this did not come to fruition. However, unofficial specifications for the Edge 40 have already surfaced, indicating that it boasts completely fresh hardware, unlike the Pro which is derived from the Moto X40.
Another noteworthy piece of information that has surfaced is the alleged price of €600 for the Motorola Edge 40. It’s worth noting that this pricing is yet to be officially confirmed and should be treated as a mere leak at this point. However, the rumors were spot on regarding the Edge 40 Pro’s price tag of €900. The €300 price gap between the two models is a significant factor that could greatly impact the desirability of each phone for consumers.
In addition to the leaked specifications and price, there have also been new images of the Moto Edge 40 that have surfaced. These images showcase the phone in a color known as “Viva Magenta,” which was recently used for the Edge 30 Fusion. Interestingly, Viva Magenta was recently named the Pantone Color of the Year for 2023, which explains the small Pantone badge that appears on the back of the phone in the images.
Leaker Roland Quandt has also revealed some new color options (pictured below) for the upcoming Moto Edge 40. All of these colorways, with the exception of the blue variant, will reportedly come with a faux leather texture. The remaining color options are expected to be named Nebula Green, Lunar Blue, and Eclipse Black.
Motorola Edge 40 Rumored Features
To give a detailed overview of the leaked specifications for the upcoming Motorola Edge 40, it is expected to be powered by a Dimensity 8020 chipset, which is a mid-range processor developed by MediaTek. This chipset should provide enough power to handle most tasks with ease, including gaming and video streaming.
The phone will come with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, which should be ample space for storing photos, videos, apps, and other files. Additionally, the phone will feature a 6.55-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a 144Hz refresh rate. This display should provide an excellent viewing experience with vibrant colors and smooth animations.
In terms of cameras, the Motorola Edge 40 is rumored to feature a 50MP primary camera with 1.0µm pixels, f/1.4 aperture, and OIS. This should provide excellent image quality, even in low light conditions. There will also be a 13MP ultra-wide module with a 120° field of view and a 2MP macro camera for close-up shots. For selfies, the phone will have a 32MP front-facing camera with 0.7µm pixels and f/2.4 aperture.
The battery capacity is expected to be 4,400mAh, which should provide ample power for a full day’s use. Furthermore, the phone will support 68W wired TurboPower charging and 15W wireless charging. Both the faux leather and acrylic versions of the phone will feature an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, which should make the device more durable and resistant to the elements.
As for the official release date, there is still no official word from Motorola on when the Edge 40 will be announced. However, based on the recent leaks and rumors, it is expected to launch in the near future.
