Nokia unveiled their low cost Asha 308 and Asha 309 smartphones today. On the higher end of Smartphones, Nokia Lumia 920 is out there featuring Windows Phone 8. It is clear that unlike many other manufacturers, their target is all section of the masses at all geographical locations, be it a budget conscious or not.
Today, Engadget interviewed the CEO of Nokia, Stephen Elop. In the interview, they talked about the Nokia Lumia 920, just released Nokia Asha 308 and 309, Windows Phone 8 etc.
About Nokia Lumia 920 Stephen Elop was asked questions such as possibility of other colors like Cyan, the missing SD Card slot and no 1700GHz band. Regarding more colors of Lumia 920, it seems Nokia is planning for more in the way forward but they are happy right now with the existing ones. About the SD Card slot and 1700GHz band missing, he said it was design trade off and they had other areas to focus.
He was happy to talk about the new Asha 308 and 309 budget smartphones. He said that these are very less in cost and are budget user targeted. For example the new Nokia Xpress browser features proxy browsing which reduces the data usage up to 90%. And GFK and IDC have announced that the new Asha family phones are smartphones, making it the lowest price smartphone.
He also talked about the possibility of Windows 8 Tablet, contingency plan in case of Windows Phone fails to impress the users. He did not point anything about a Nokia Windows 8 tablet but he is confident that Nokia Windows Phone 8 smartphones will definitely impress the users even though competition is high with Apple iOS and Android. Their effort is on as user experience evolves.
