Along with the ultra-affordable C32 and C22 phones, HMD Global has also announced another affordable handset called Nokia G22 for global markets. This is the first Nokia smartphone to come with repairability and sustainability, including a global collaboration with iFixit. Interested buyers can start buying the Nokia G22 is available from today in Blue and Grey for just €179 (~ $155). This device has recently appeared on Geekbench database, scoring 308 single-core, 1094 multi-core scores in stress tests.
Nokia G22 – the first Nokia smartphone with repairability
Nokia says that users will be able to access repair guides and affordable parts to replace a damaged display, bent charging port or flat battery with a QuickFix design. Nokia made it very simple by reducing the steps that needed to repair the G22. You don’t need to heat the back cover to remove it, and the company has also removed the need for alcohol to disassemble the damaged or degraded battery from the device.
You can also easily replace the display of the G22. Nokia claims that it takes around 25 minutes to replace the display on the G22. The battery replacement just takes around 5 minutes.
Nokia has collaborated with iFixit, so that you can easily access repair guides and affordable parts to replace a damaged display, bent charging port or flat battery with a QuickFix design. iFixit provides the tools, guide, and parts for you to replace the display, charging port or battery on the Nokia G22. To fix certain repair issues, you can grab a Fit Kit (i.e., the tools) from iFixit for £5. A replacement battery will cost £23, a display £45 and a charging port £19.
The G22 is built around 100% recycled plastic back, OZO Playback to deliver enhanced bass and clearer sound. It naturally boots the outdated Android 12 OS, but Nokia has promised 2 years of Android OS upgrades, three years of monthly security updates and extended three-year warranty at no extra cost. Yes, it would be upgraded up to Android 14 in the coming years.
Specs wise, The Nokia G22 has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 6.52-inch HD+ 90Hz display with Gorilla Glass 3 and a 90Hz refresh rate. It has a 50MP main camera, a 2MP macro unit, as well as a 2MP dedicated depth unit. Around the front, it has an 8MP camera that supports face unlock even with a mask.
The Nokia G22 is powered by a Unison T606 chipset. It is an octa-core, 1.6Ghz CPU, and paired up with 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB storage. The storage can be expanded via microSD cards. The entire device is backed up by a 5,050mAh battery which has support for 20W wired charging.
