Red Magic 8 Pro series launching globally on February 2

In December 2022, Nubia has launched the Red Magic 8 Pro series of flagship gaming smartphones in China. The line-up consists of two devices – Red Magic 8 Pro and Red Magic 8 Pro+. Now, a couple of weeks later, the manufacturer has officially confirmed the firm’s latest gaming phone with some minor changes for 2023 in global markets.

It seems the Magic 8 Pro+ variant isn’t coming to the global regions, instead there is the Void. Nubia has also launched the tweaked the Magic 8 Pro by downgrading the fast charging speeds to 65W for the global variant, whereas the Chinese variant has 80W fast charging capability, but the battery capacity remains the same for both models as 6000mAh. However, this series utilizes the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is paired with 12/16GB LPDDR5x RAM, and 256/512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, which offer over 100% performance gains when compared to LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, respectively.

The company has named the base Red Magic 8 Pro as “Matte” due to its textured, opaque, back panel. Matte variant comes packed with 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage, just like the Chinese version.

The other option (Red Magic 8 Pro+)is called “Void,” which is similar to the Pro+ with 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage. Nubia hasn’t just changed the name for the Pro+ version, you will also observe some differences for the international release. The Red Magic 8 Pro sits on a 6.8-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED panel, which offers 120Hz refresh rate, 960Hz touch sampling rate with DC dimming, 520Hz sampling rate, and a Gorilla Glass 5 coating for scratch and drop protection. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is cooled by the ICE 11.0 cooling system with a 20,000 RPM dedicated fan that allows for longer gaming and cooler gaming sessions in the most demanding 3D Android titles, by increasing airflow and reduce noise.

The triple camera setup at the rear of the Red Magic 8 Pro has been upgraded with a 50-megapixel Samsung GN5 main sensor, which is paired with an 8-megapixel ultrawide, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. For those wondering about the selfies and video calls, the 16MP front-facing camera is hidden under the display (2nd generation UDC tech). The device also has stereo speakers with 48 ms low latency and dual X-axis linear motors, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
