Here it is folks. The Gingerbread update news we published last week is now rolling out from the Verizon’s servers for its 2nd LTE capable handset. Verizon branded Samsung-made DROID Charge owners can can upgrade their handsets to Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. It’s good news for Droid Charge owners that are eagerly waiting for Android 2.3 to come to their handsets. The new firmware update is carrying the new build number i510.EP4 and it will include the following fixes and enhancements.
# Download Manager App.
# You can take advantage of a new “Running” tab that shows off a list of active applications and the amount of storage and memory used by each.
# Addition of the new widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors.
# Data encryption for both the internal and SD card memory.
# Improved word selection and copy functionality.
# Press-hold on the screen – to select a word; Press twice – to copy or cut the word and then paste it.
# Updated Calendar options.
# Addition of the “Pass”, “Wait”, “Password” features into the Voice Mail speed entry.
# The Vibration Alert intensity increased.
Support for the Message Signature Setting.
# The Hotspot-Password Encryption.
# Device and SD Card encryption. VPN enhancements integrate IPSec VPN clients into device security settings
# Improved features including – Audio Output, Bluetooth, Camera, Data Connectivity, Data Usage app, HDMI output, GPS, Web Browser, Visual Voice Mail and more.

Samsung Droid Charge users will be notified on their handsets to accept the update. Don’t panic if the update doesn’t hit your handset yet. You can pull the update in manual process. The Android Gingerbread update for Samsung Droid Charge is weighing 114.9MB of size. To pull the OTA update in manual process, Samsung Droid Charge owners should move over to “Home” –> Applications –> “Settings” –> “About Device” –> “System Updates” –> Make sure that Update is available –> If found the update, wait for some to finish the downloading process –> Tap Install Now button –> Installation should start now –> Tap Restart & Install button (may be Device Reboots Automatically at this stage) –> Follow the on-screen instructions until the process to get finished –> Done. The Gingerbread goodness should be ready now to grace on your handset. After finishing the installation of the update, the software version should be shown as i510.EP4.
