The Korean manufacturer Samsung is gearing up to launch a mid-range spec’d Android smartphone, called the Samsung Galaxy Precedent. But here is the real twist. Walmart’s pre-paid cellular service, Straight Talk is going to offer this handset just at an affordable off-contract price point $149.88. You won’t face any contract, no hidden fees, and you can pay for a monthly Straight Talk plan. Walmart’s mobile virtual network operator TracFone is set to enter the Android world with this Samsung Galaxy Precedent handset. Walmart is also offering Straight Talk $45 monthly unlimited plan so that you will get unlimited voice, text, web and 411 information.
Samsung Galaxy Precedent is super identical to the Boost Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy Prevail, except the flash on the back side of the device. Straight Talk uses the T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon networks, so we’re not exactly sure if this handset is a GSM or CDMA device. Specs wise, the Samsung Galaxy Precedent has got the out-dated Android 2.2 Froyo OS, and there is no word about The Gingerbread flavor upgrade, and it features an 800Mhz processor, 384MB of RAM, a 2 megapixel rear facing camera, a 3.2″ display delivering 320 X 480 resolution, boosted by 384MB RAM, 32GB memory expansion support via microSD card slot, as well as all other regular features of an Android handset.
