The world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, was officially launched at last month’s MWC 2011 event and the company has announced that the handset will be releasing in late March. This gaming phone is already available for pre-order in UK and till now, we don’t have the exact release date.
Sony Ericsson’s marketing director for UK has confirmed that Xperia Play will be will be going on sale in the UK on March 31, for $800 (£500) unlocked. With six games pre-installed (Bruce Lee Dragon Warriors, Crash Bandicoot, FIFA 10, Star Battalion, Tetris and The Sims 3, the handset will be available for UK takers. And the PlayStation Suite will available with 50 games at launch time for purchase.
Good news is that all the mobile operators and retailers will be selling the gaming handset in the UK. It is being heard that the Xperia Play could be even sold through alternative channels, like games stores.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on a 1GHz Snapdragon chipset, sporting a 4” touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, equipped with a 5 Megapixels camera and an additional front-facing camera, Time Scape UI, PSP like gaming buttons on the side sliding board, Media Scape UI, 3G, Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity, 512MB RAM, 400MB internal memory, 8GB micro-SD card inserted, scope for memory expansion up to 32GB, Android Market and more.

Xperia Play will be available for the U.S. consumers from early spring through Verizon Wireless.
