Earlier, we’ve seen the announcements (1), (2) about HP TouchPad 4G, and the HSPA+ capable Sony Ericsson Xperia Play devices by AT&T. The carrier on Wednesday has also announced that it will be releasing the new Honeycomb powered Sony S2 tablet in the U.S. later this year at an unknown price point. AT&T branded Sony S2 will be shipping with HSPA+ connectivity support under the hood. At the end of April, Sony has officially unveiled the Sony S2, along with Sony S1, which is 9.1-inch screen sized tablet. Sony S2 follows a similar design to the Kyocera Echo, with its dual screen display.
Sony’s S2 will be running with tablet optimized operation system Android 3.0 Honeycomb, sports a folding form factor with dual 5.5-inch displays, each with 1024 X 480 pixel of resolution, powered by Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, Sony’s PlayStation Network support for gaming & video services Android Market support. Sony’s Qriocity music services will also be featured as well, and eBooks will be readily available through Sony’s Reader Store. Users can also watch video on the top screen and operate playback controls on the bottom screen, and users can access a book reader application, while accessing an email app at the bottom screen at the same time. There is no word yet whether or not it will be upgrading to Android 3.1 or Android 3.2 Honeycomb update. Android 3.1 is ideal for 10-inch sized tablets, and the Android 3.2 is the tailored version of the Android 3.1 for 7-inch tablets. So it’s hard to guess that which updated Honeycomb version will be rolled out for Sony S2 tablet.
Price & Availability
There’s no word yet on pricing and the release date, but Sony originally did promise that the Sony S2 will be hitting the markets this fall.
