Sprint has now started to roll out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung’s 7-inch Android tablet that was launched last year. Owners of the Sprint-branded original Samsung Galaxy Tab are reporting that the update is indeed available now. The update is said to roll out to all the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab devices under Sprint in stages in the next 4 days via Over-The-Air (OTA). Users will get notification on their tablets when the update becomes available to them. As the update has started rolling out just today, you need to be patient as the update could come anytime in the next few days.
The update will bring the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS software update along with HID Bluetooth update to your tablet. It has been labelled as the Samsung Galaxy Tab maintenance release – EF17 (build GINGERBREAD.EF17). Bluetooth HID support will enable you to connect mice and keyboards (Bluetooth supported) to the Galaxy Tab.
To install the update, Go to Menu > Settings > About My Galaxy Tab > System updates > choose Update Android (or Firmware). The updates will then be downloaded and installed. This will take approximately 5 minutes. Once it is done, restart the tablet to complete the upgrade process. Make sure the current version and build number are shown as the above.
