Sony’s upcoming 2023 premium flagship model, the Xperia 1 V, has been making headlines lately. A high-end model, speculated to be the same as the Xperia 1 V, recently passed FCC certification. Based on the timing of the certification, it appears that Sony may announce or release the device at around the same time as last year’s Xperia 1 IV or even earlier.
Amidst all the buzz surrounding the device, a curious leak related to its camera, specifically its “ultra-wide camera,” has surfaced. It has been claimed that the Xperia 1 V will come equipped with the “most powerful” ultra-wide-angle camera ever seen.
While it is true that most high-end models currently have an ultra-wide-angle camera, it is quite uncommon for a smartphone to promote this as its standout feature. Typically, smartphones advertise the performance and functionality of their primary (wide-angle) and telephoto cameras instead.
The term “most powerful” used to describe the Xperia 1 V’s ultra-wide-angle camera is also quite unique. Although rumors suggest that the new model’s camera sensor size may be slightly larger than its predecessor, it still seems like an exaggeration to call it “the most powerful.”
A more fitting description might be “the camera with the shortest focal length” or “the camera with the widest field of view,” as these are more commonly associated with an ultra-wide-angle camera. So, what does “most powerful” mean in this context?
It could refer to the camera’s powerful distortion correction when taking ultra-wide-angle photos. Alternatively, the software used for processing composite panoramas may be particularly robust. Whatever the case, if this information is accurate, the Xperia 1 V’s camera is likely to incorporate new technology or features related to ultra-wide-angle photography.
There have been rumors circulating about the camera sensor sizes for each lens on the upcoming Xperia 1 V. According to these rumors, the standard wide angle lens is said to have a 1/1.4 inch sensor, while the super wide angle lens may have a 1/2.5 inch sensor. The telephoto lens is rumored to have a 1/2.9 inch sensor, and the front-facing camera may have a 1/2.4 inch sensor.
However, it’s important to remember that these are only rumors and have not yet been officially confirmed by the manufacturer. We will have to wait for official information to be released before we can know for certain what sensor sizes the Xperia 1 V’s camera lenses will have.
