Sharp has announced a new waterproof kick-ass phone (literally!), AQUOS Phone The Hybrid 007SH. A waterproof phone packed up with a 16 megapixel camera and Android Gingerbread and featuring a clamshell design that no body thought an Android phone would ever manage.

The new Android waterproof flip phone from Sharp will feature a 3.4-inch FWVGA stereoscopic (3D) display (3D glasses not required!) with 854 x 480 pixels of resolution, complemented by a 0.7-inch OLED secondary display, running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 16 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording capability, GPS, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, infrared port, microSD slot that supports up to 32GB of memory expansion, digital TV tuner, digital wallet, micro HDMI, Blue-ray recorder connectivity etc. The phone supports GSM and W-CDMA technologies, measures 113 x 51.8 x 19.3 mm and weighs 140 g.

Availability:

Sharp Aquos Phone The Hybrid 007SH will be available through the Japanese carrier SoftBank starting June 2011 in Japan. There is no word on pricing yet. Considering the history of Sharp, it’s unlikely that the phone will see some light in the other parts of the world anytime soon.
