Update (6/3) : Android Gingerbread 4.22.651 update is now rolling out
Verizon has really been busy these days rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for most of the handsets running Android Froyo on its network. Recently, Verizon has started rolling out the Gingerbread update for Motorola Droid X, and the Droid Pro also has confirmed to be getting the Gingerbread update. A few weeks back, we’ve reported that Sprint is set to release the Gingerbread flavor of Android OS for its first 4G WiMAX capable HTC EVO 4G handset, according to the listing of handset marked with “Android 2.3 Gingerbread” on its website, but the carrier has announced that it was just a ‘typo’ mistake.
Sprint has yet make the official announcement of Gingerbread update for the HTC EVO 4G, but according to a couple of leaked screenshots, Sprint is readying to release the Gingerbread update for EVO 4G starting June 3rd, Friday. Users have to manually check for the update starting tomorrow. And beginning the following Monday, June 6th, the owners of the HTC EVO 4G who haven’t already updated manually will be getting notifications of the firmware update on their handsets.
The Gingerbread update’s version number is 4.22.651.2. Along with the precious Gingerbread, the update will bring all the improvements, a number of bug fixes, including the frustrating SMS bug. After upgrading to the 4.22.651.2 Gingerbread update, the following changes will take place:
# SMS text messages no longer will be delivered to the wrong recipients by random.
# The word “Me” will be replaced with “Yo” while writing the SMS messages in Spanish.
# Termination of Multiple Gmail Accounts Syncing problem will be solved.
# Fix for an issue that resulted in users not being able to charge the battery that has reached the battery/power down threshold.
Sprint branded HTC EVO 4G owners should head over to Menu –> Settings –> System Update –> HTC Software Update –> Check Now –> Tap OK and tap Yes button now –> Finish downloading the update –> Tap Ok –> Reboot and the update should start downloading now. After downloading and finishing the installation of the update, the Software version will be treated as 4.22.651.2 on your HTC EVO 4G handset. Don’t loose your hopes if it doesn’t hit your handset right away. Starting June 6th, the phone will ask if you want to update the software.
