Last week, we reported that several mobile manufacturers including Sony, Lenovo, Huawei, ZTE will introduce a number of devices powered by MediaTek SoC. Well, it seems true. According to a new report, Sony Mobile is preparing to introduce a 5-inch entry level handset in the third quarter of this year. The handset will be packed with MediaTek’s quad-core MT6589 processor. It is notable that all the 2013 Xperia models introduced by Sony are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
The device will be manufactured by ODM manufacturer, Arima Communications. There’s no further report regarding the specs of the purported device as well as the official name of the device yet.
It is further reported that Arima, Compal, and Foxconn are already planning to ship around 8 to 10 million smartphones from Sony this year.
Last week, a 5.3-inch Lenovo S920 smartphone was listed officially on the official website of Lenovo China’s store and it is claimed to be powered by MediaTek’s Quad-core MT6589 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It is worth mentioning that the upcoming Huawei Ascend G700 would also be packed with the low-cost quad-core MediaTek chip.
