Here it is guys! As promised earlier, Apple has finally released the final build of build of iOS 5 to consumers around the world and it is now available to download for the millions of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. A few days ago, Apple has released iOS 5 GM for developers. Please note that iTunes 10.5 (released on yesterday) is required in order to install the iOS 5 update. iOS 5 is a major software release bringing more than 200 new features including a brand new Notification Center, built-in Twitter integration, iCloud, iMessage, Newsstand, mail, Safari improvements, as well as many services and bug fixes. iTunes in the Cloud is a service that allows you to re-download any songs, apps or TV shows that you have purchased through iTunes. Apple also released iOS 4.4 for the Apple TV 2G device. iOS 5 seems to be Apple’s most comprehensive and complete system upgrade ever with following new features:
# iCloud support – iTunes in the Cloud; Photo Stream; Documents in the Cloud; Apps and Books automatic download and purchase history; Backup; Contacts, Calendar, and Mail; Find My iPhone.
# Users can swipe from the top of any screen to view Notifications in one place with Notification Center, # New notifications will appear briefly at the top of the screen.
# Users can also view notifications from lock screen.
# iMessage: Send and receive unlimited text, photo, and video messages with other iOS 5 users.
# iMessage works over cellular network and Wi-Fi connection.
# Wireless iTunes Syncing over Wi-Fi: Users will be also able to set up wireless syncing to iTunes across a WiFi network when the device is plugged in to power.
# Users can force a sync by going to Settings >General > Wi-Fi Sync and tapping Sync Now.
# Newsstand: This feature automatically organizes magazine and newspaper subscriptions on Home Screen.
# Built-in support for Twitter – Users can tweet directly from Camera, Photos, Maps, Safari and YouTube.
# Overhauling of the Camera app to reflect the new focus on camera improvements for devices with cameras.
# Double clicking the home button (when device is asleep) will bring up a camera shortcut on iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th gen)
# Volume Up button to take a picture; Pinch to zoom in the preview screen; Swipe to camera roll from preview screen; Tap and hold to lock focus and exposure.
# Photo improvements for devices with cameras – Crop and rotate; Red eye removal; One tap enhance; Organize photos into albums.
# Mail improvements.
# AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
# Game Center improvements.
# Calendar improvements – Year view on iPad and new Week view for iPhone and iPod touch; Tap to create an event; View and add event attachments.
# Multitasking Gestures for iPad.
# Redesigned Music app for iPad; Real-time stock quotes ; Hourly weather forecast.
# Keyboard improvements – Split keyboard for iPad; New Emoji keyboard; Improved autocorrection accuracy; Improved Chinese and Japanese input.
# A set of Accessibility improvements – New interface for using iOS with mobility-impairment input devices; Option to light LED flash on incoming calls and alerts for iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.
# Exchange ActiveSync improvements.
# More than 1,500 new developer APIs.
# Bug fixes.
Apple delivered on its promise to release the software today, 1 day before the iPhone 4S goes on sale. So fire up iTunes (hopefully you already have 10.5) and grab the final code. To check the update, connect your iOS device to your iTunes installation on Mac or PC with USB 2.0 port and check for updates. Don’t forget to backup your important data and files before you proceeding for upgrade process.
