Just a couple of hours ago, ASUS has officially took the wraps off its latest Padfone 2 in Taiwan, ahead of the official announcement which is scheduled to happen later today in Milan.

Asus Padfone 2 is bigger than the original Padfone and it is having better features than its predecessor. The new Padfone 2 is power-packed with features like 4.7-inch 720p Super IPS+ touchscreen with up to 550nits brightness, Corning Fit Glass protection, 13-megapixel rear facing camera with Sony’s f/2.4 BSI sensor with 1080p HD video recording capability @ 30 fps, or 720p HD video recording @ 60fps and it can capture 100 continuous shots at full resolution. There is a front-facing 1.3 megapixel shooter to make 720p HD video calls. The device comes with 2 gigabytes of RAM, and it can perform NFC operations.

The Padfone 2 ships with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, but it will be upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean build after its launch and it has got a 2140mAh battery for spinning the wheels under the hood. Connectivity wise, it has got WCDMA 900/2,100MHz plus LTE 800/1,800/2,600MHz radios.

How about the new tablet?

On the tablet, you will see a 10.1-inch IPS HD display with 1280 by 800 pixels of resolution, and it will come with a 5000mAh battery to power everything and it weighs 649 grams with the Padfone 2 docked in, which is lighter than the new iPad (iPad 3). FYI, the previous tablet has got 6,600mAh and weighs 854 grams with the phone docked in.

There’s a new 13-pin connector (instead of 40-pin connector on the original Padfone) on both the Padfone 2 and tablet, which is still compatible with micro USB.

Now the price part, the 16GB Padfone 2 costs you NT$17,990 (approx. US$620) and you’ve to pay NT$21,901 (approx. US$750) for the 64 gigabytes edition. The tablet bundle will sell for NT$6,000 extra over each edition’s price tag.  The Station costs $310. There is no word yet on the U.S. availability of the Padfone 2. The company hasn’t also given us specific release dates for the Padfone 2. So, we really need another live show for that.
