Samsung unveils $200 Galaxy A14 5G with a better selfie camera

Samsung is used to announce its Galaxy S phones at the Consumer electronic Show (CES). But CES isn’t much of a mobile show these days for the high-end smartphone unveiling. However, Samsung has arrived at CES 2023 to showcase the first Galaxy A smartphone of 2023. Samsung took wraps off of the Galaxy A14 5G, which is a more affordable version of 2021’s Galaxy A13 5G.

Unlike its successor, the Galaxy A14 5G doesn’t have any major surprise or any leap forward in technology to blow our minds. You won’t be able to spot any differences in both devices’ specs sheets. It is more or less the same smartphone the Korean brand launched last year, but Samsung claims it offers a “huge leap in selfie quality” with the new front-facing shooter.

We have been hearing about the Galaxy A14 5G over the last few months. In contrast to the previous leaks and rumors, the handset comes packed with a 6.6-inch Full HD+ display that transmits 90Hz refresh rate, which is a huge step forward over the 720p display used on its predecessor. Inside, it is powered by Exynos 1330 chipset, replacing the MediaTek processor that fueled the predecessor, while keeping the same 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage, 5,000mAh battery that offers about two days of uptime, and even the 3.5mm headphone jack as before. There’s a microSD card slot support that lets you expand the memory storage up to 1TB. 5G support is available for Sub6 networks.

The Galaxy A14 5G still has the same riple rear-camera system (50MP + 2MP + 2MP) as before, while the front camera gets an upgrade to 1 13-megapixel shooter. The handset’s fingerprint scanner is mounted on the power button., and it boots the pre-installed Android 13 based One UI 5 OS out of the box. Samsung is willing to roll out two major Android OS upgrades and four years of security support. That means, if you buy this phone, you will get to see Android 15, and can safely use your phone until 2027 with the latest Android goodies.

Samsung will be selling the Galaxy A14 5G in four colors: black, silver, dark red, and light green. Pricing starts at $229 euros for the 4GB+64GB model, or $50 less than it did its predecessor. It’ll be available from Samsung’s website starting on January 12th. The phone will be available to purchase in all European markets starting some time in April. We don’t know the exact date yet. There’s also no word yet on the availability details for other global markets.
