Samsung is reportedly working on the Galaxy Z Flip 5, which is set to launch in the third quarter of this year. The device is expected to receive a significant upgrade, possibly the best in the series so far. Recent reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a larger cover display, with more details about its size and placement now coming to light.
Ross Young, the CEO of DSCC and a display analyst, has been disclosing important information about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. He recently tweeted about the size of the phone’s cover display and also mentioned the production date for the device.
Display analyst Ross Young has leaked new details about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, including the size of its cover display, which will be 3.8 inches, bigger than initially anticipated. This information is consistent with a recent report featuring a schematic that shows the cover screen taking up almost the entire top half of the device’s back. This contradicts previous rumors of a smaller 3.14-inch display.
Compared to the Oppo Find N2 Flip‘s 3.26-inch cover screen and the yet-to-be-released Vivo X Flip’s similarly sized cover screen, the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s 3.8-inch outer display is expected to be larger than the both devices. It is a significant upgrade over last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 4, which only had a 1.9-inch cover display.
Ross Young provided additional information on Twitter regarding the manufacturing of Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices, disclosing the timeline for when Samsung Display will commence shipping the panels and when the Korean tech giant will initiate production of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5.
According to Young’s tweet, panel shipments for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 are scheduled to begin in May, with production starting in June. The release date is expected to be similar to last year, with the devices likely hitting the shelves in August. Recently, the same source also leaked that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 would be available in four colors – Beige, Gray, Light Green, and Light Pink.
A previous report today indicated that Samsung could potentially adopt OLED panels utilizing M12 components for their upcoming foldable devices, while the first foldable device from Google may employ an enhanced version of the technology with M13-based OLED displays.
Additional leaks have indicated that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor, as well as 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB UFS 4.0 storage choices. Furthermore, the device is expected to feature a new hinge technology that will minimize the display crease.
