As we approach this year’s Google I/O developer conference, anticipation is building for the expected launch of the Google Pixel Fold. With previous Pixel releases, it’s not uncommon to have a clear idea of what to expect, and this upcoming release is no different.
There has been a deluge of leaks surrounding the highly-anticipated Pixel Fold, and the latest comes in the form of official-looking images shared by renowned leaker Evan Blass just a few days ago. These images give us a glimpse of the device’s darker color variant, which is expected to be called “Charcoal,” and show off the foldable phone from the side, as well as its inner screen.
Today’s leak appears to provide further confirmation of the previously leaked design for the Pixel Fold, as well as revealing a new silver color option. In addition, the leak includes a selection of wallpapers that are expected to be available on the device.
Upon careful observation of the leaked images, the Pixel Fold’s thick bezels are clearly visible. Although some may find them unattractive, they could serve a practical purpose by providing a more comfortable grip on the phone and reducing the likelihood of accidental touches on the screen.
Additionally, the hinge mechanism on the Pixel Fold seems to be designed to minimize display creasing, which has been a challenge for other foldable devices in the market. It’s encouraging to see Google taking the time to get the foldable display right, even though it’s coming into the game a bit later than some of its competitors.
Based on the leaked press render, the inner display of the Pixel Fold appears to have a wider aspect ratio, giving it a more tablet-like feel. The image shows six icons along the bottom dock, with three widgets on screen at once, including two 2×2 widgets and one 4×2 widget. The homescreen appears to have an approximate layout of 8×4, with space available below for the Google Search widget and dock. Interestingly, there is plenty of room on the side of the “At a Glance” widget, which typically occupies the entire top portion of the Pixel Launcher on Google’s other phones.
The Pixel Fold’s inner display is rumored to measure 7.6 inches at a resolution of 2208×1840, making it a spacious canvas for productivity and entertainment.
According to industry insiders, the highly anticipated Google Pixel Fold is scheduled to be announced at this year’s Google I/O developer conference on May 10th. Alongside the Pixel Fold, the Pixel 7a is also expected to make an appearance at the event. Leaked reports suggest that the Pixel Fold may retail for $1,799 and is expected to hit the market sometime in June after its official unveiling.
