HTC To Begin Unlocking Bootloaders In August Starting With Sensation And EVO 3D

Way back in May, HTC has promised us that it will unlock bootloaders on all the future Android smartphones that are going to be produced by the Taiwanese mobile phone maker, making it easier for users to install custom ROMs. Later, we heard that the HTC is going to release software updates to device like HTC Sensation 4G to unlock the bootloaders. Yesterday HTC has made another statement on its Facebook page that the company is indeed ready to roll out the unlocked bootloaders to the  HTC Sensation (global) in August.

Though the company stated that the unlocking capability is still in the testing phase, it has also mentioned that the update would be fully operational by early September. The software update will first roll out to the global HTC Sensation in August, followed by the T-Mobile USA’s HTC Sensation 4G (as expected) and the HTC EVO 3D for Sprint. But it’s not just that. HTC has also promised to extend the unlocking of bootloaders to other mobile phones as well. Screenshot of the full statement of the HTC on its Facebook page after the break.

According to Engadget, HTC would be unlocking the bootloaders in two stages. In the first stage, it will release a “maintenance release” to the phones in August but the actual unlocking tool will only be shipped in early September.
