Huawei Mate X3 Takes the Crown as World’s Lightest Foldable Phone

Huawei had a big event today. Alongside the launch of the Huawei P60 series, Huawei also unveiled its latest foldable flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate X3. This device is not only the thinnest and lightest foldable phone on the market but also showcases Huawei’s impressive innovation in the foldable smartphone segment, offering an unparalleled user experience.

Despite being lightweight, it boasts a plethora of powerful and secret features. The two-year hiatus since the release of the Huawei Mate X2 has definitely been worth the wait, and we are thoroughly impressed with how the company has crafted the Mate X3 with the consumer in mind.

The Huawei Mate X3 stands out with its innovative material application and ultra-light body structure, resulting in a weight of just 239g, making it the thinnest and lightest foldable phone ever made.

Featuring a new double-rotation water drop hinge and an ultra-thin Type-C device, the Huawei Mate X3 is now even thinner than its predecessors. When unfolded, the body of the phone measures only 5.3mm, providing a truly unique and immersive folding screen experience.

The Huawei Mate X3 has launched with a Kunlun glass cover screen that provides reliable protection for the ultra-impact-resistant flexible screen within the fold. Both of these screens are incredibly thin, light, and reliable, both on the inside and outside.

The Huawei Mate X3 boasts a remarkable 7.85″ inner screen and a 6.4″ outer screen, all within a thin and lightweight body measuring just 5.3mm and weighing only 239g. As mentioned, the external display boasts a sizeable 6.4 inches, providing a high resolution of 2504×1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20.9:9. Meanwhile, the internal screen offers an impressive 7.85-inch display with a resolution of 2496×2224 pixels and a nearly square aspect ratio of 8:7.1.

Notably, the device is also IPX8 waterproof, marking the first time a water drop hinge folding phone has achieved such a rating. This is truly an outstanding feat! It allows users to fold it freely without fear of wind and rain. The device also boasts a new wet hand touch feature, which enhances touch sensitivity on the screen, ensuring an optimal user experience in all conditions.

In comparison, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold5’s outer screen is expected to measure only 6.2″, with the inner screen measuring 7.6″. The device is reportedly 6.3mm thick and weighs 254g. Given these specs, the Huawei Mate X3 seems to have already surpassed the Galaxy Z Fold5 in terms of its design and capabilities.

The Huawei Mate X3’s camera design pays homage to the signature aesthetic of the Mate series, featuring a unique round ring with a shiny finish. The camera setup includes an RYYB periscope lens and a main camera with a bright sensor, both of which deliver exceptional image quality.

What’s even more impressive is that despite its lightweight design, the Mate X3 manages to pack in a 5x periscope telephoto lens, allowing users to capture stunning photos from a distance. This feature alone sets the Mate X3 apart from other devices on the market and demonstrates Huawei’s commitment to delivering top-of-the-line technology in every aspect of the phone.

The Huawei Mate X3 is equipped with an Ultra-sensing XMAGE imaging system that offers unparalleled image color accuracy and light perception, resulting in stunning details and lifelike shadows. This system ensures that users can capture high-quality images in any lighting condition.

As for the camera specs, the Huawei Mate X3 is equipped with a powerful triple camera setup on its rear. The rear cameras include a high-resolution 50MP f/1.8 wide camera, accompanied by a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide and a 12MP f/3.4 5x telephoto lens, allowing for exceptional versatility and capturing capabilities.

For those who love taking selfies, there are two 8MP front-facing selfie cameras – one for each screen. The front-facing cameras of the Mate X3 can capture high-quality self-portraits with an impressive level of detail. With this feature, users can take perfect selfies every time, showcasing their best features and creating memories to last a lifetime.

The device is powered by Harmony OS 3.1 and runs on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, paired with a whopping 12GB of RAM, ensuring seamless multitasking and lightning-fast performance. Despite its advanced technology, the Mate X3 currently only supports 4G connectivity, as the company is prohibited from purchasing 5G modems.

Underneath its sleek exterior lies a robust 4,800mAh battery, which supports both 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, offering unparalleled convenience and speed for on-the-go charging.

The Huawei Mate X3 is a stunning foldable device with a new and unique design. It is available in three gorgeous feather-sand colors – black, white, and purple, which showcase the industry’s first feather-sand glass technology. These colors are crystal clear and fingerprint-resistant, providing a sleek and modern look.

Additionally, the device is also available in two classic plain leather versions – Chenxi Gold and Qingshan Dai. These elegant colors and variants add a touch of sophistication to the device, giving users multiple options to choose from and personalize their Mate X3 to their liking.

The Huawei Mate X3 is not only a groundbreaking foldable phone in terms of design and performance but also in terms of features. It is the world’s first foldable phone to incorporate satellite communication technology, which enables users to stay connected even in areas where traditional cellular networks are unavailable.

The Mate X3 comes with second-generation satellite SMS technology that supports two-way communication, allowing users to send and receive messages even in remote areas. This feature is particularly useful for individuals who travel frequently to areas with limited network coverage, such as hikers, campers, and adventurers. The addition of satellite communication technology to the Mate X3 demonstrates Huawei’s commitment to innovation and providing its users with the best possible experience.

The Huawei Mate X3 will only be available in China, and there is no information about its global release. The starting price for the 256GB model is CNY 12,999 ($1,999 when converted), while the 512GB model costs CNY 13,999 ($2,050). The top-end model with 1TB of storage is priced at CNY 15,999 ($2,340). It is important to note that prices may vary depending on the region and the retailer.
