Lenovo Slashes Price of ThinkPhone for US market

The Motorola ThinkPhone was one of the most exciting devices unveiled at the CES 2023 expo. However, we haven’t had any information regarding its price or purchase details until now. The company has finally announced where businesses and consumers can purchase the ThinkPad companion, along with its price tag.

Lenovo has announced that it will be bringing the ThinkPhone to the US market, as part of its previously stated plans to launch the smartphone in multiple regions worldwide, such as Europe, the Middle East, Australia, select Asian countries, and the US. However, the company has yet to reveal any details regarding the phone’s pricing and release date for each region.

After being launched in the UK with a hefty price tag of £899.99, Lenovo, the parent company of Motorola, has now announced a more affordable price point of US$699.99 for the ThinkPhone in the US market. This decision by Lenovo is likely to be well-received by budget-conscious consumers. The new price point presents a significant reduction compared to the UK pricing.

The ThinkPhone may not be the go-to choice for the average consumer looking for a daily driver. Its hardware specs include a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a 6.6-inch pOLED display. Overall, while the device offers decent specifications, it can be seen as a run-of-the-mill device.  There’s also an in-screen fingerprint reader, NFC, IP68 dust and water resistance, and Wi-Fi 6E compatibility.

The ThinkPhone’s “Think 2 Think” tool allows it to seamlessly integrate with Lenovo’s popular ThinkPad laptops, making it an ideal companion for enterprise customers. With features such as a shared clipboard, notification sync, file drops, and app streaming, the ThinkPhone and ThinkPad work together as if they’re running the same software. This level of integration is a game-changer for businesses that rely on ThinkPads and want to extend that functionality to their mobile devices.

Here’s a full specs recap of the Motorola ThinkPhone:

Given the ThinkPhone’s focus on the enterprise market, Motorola has revealed that it will be accessible through “specific B2B channels in the United States.” Essentially, this implies that the ThinkPhone will be handled as a business resource and offered to businesses either through inter-company sales or through a Lenovo business collaborator. The company promises three years of major Android version updates and four years of security updates.

Individuals who are not affiliated with a company can still purchase the ThinkPhone through Motorola and Lenovo’s websites at a cost of $699.99. While the B2B channels are already open, general consumers will have to wait until April 28th to purchase the device.
