Netflix to appear on Android(selected handsets) next year

Finally, after a long wait, the fastest & most popular on-demand video streaming service Netflix coming to Android early next year. According to official blog post of Netflix, this streaming service will be available instantly for ‘only selected Android handsets’ in early 2011. The company recently announced the availability of Netflix for Windows Phone 7 handsets & iPhone. Due to the lack of a generic and complete platform security and content protection mechanism of Android, Netflix won’t appear on every Android handset early next year.

The same security issues that have led to The piracy concerns on the Android platform have made it difficult to secure a common Digital Rights Management (DRM) system on Android devices. Netflix stated tat they will be able to work with individual handset manufacturers to add content protection to their devices, although they don’t have a common platform security mechanism and DRM.

Netflix will also continue to work with the Android community, handset manufacturers, carriers, and other service providers to develop a standard, platform-wide solution that allows content providers to deliver their services to all Android-based devices.

By the way, Netflix is a company that offers both on-demand video streaming over the internet, and flat rate DVD and Blu-ray Disc rental-by-mail in the United States and Canada (streaming only).
