>> How-To-Get Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread On Nexus S:

The Android 2.3.6 OTA update notification should hit your Nexus S phone very soon. It has started to go out over-the-air to Nexus S phones, and should reach most users within a few days. If you can’t wait to get the notification, you can check for the update to initiate the upgrade process manually by going through the following instructions.

Nexus S owners should head over to Home –> Settings –> About Phone –> System Updates and then tap on “Update Firmware” or “Update Android” and the updates will be automatically downloaded to your phone.

Or else, here is a trick, which will apparently force your phone to update. Just go to your standard dialer pad and enter *#*#checkin#*#* (or) *#*#2432546#*#*. Now you will get an update message a few seconds later. Now you will see a yellow exclamation icon in the notification (or different icon) bar letting you know that checking has been completed and if an update exists, you should be notified.

After the completion of the update process, the Nexus S should be running Android 2.3.6 Baseband I9020AUCKF1 with Build Number GRK39C.

Note that according to the comments section on Google support forum, reports are pouring in that this update will correct a voice search bug, but at the same time, it has been confirmed that this update also breaks Wi-Fi and USB Tethering like 2.3.5 did for sprint branded Nexus s 4Gs. Your data connection may disappears when you turn on Wi-Fi Hotspot. So, before you accept the update, you may think for a while, if you are using Wi-Fi Hotspot feature.

So if you’ve got a Nexus S, let us know if you’ve gotten the update!
