Nokia N9 With MeeGo OS – The First Pure Touchscreen Phone Goes Official

At at Nokia Connections event in Singapore, Nokia has officially introduced its first Intel based MeeGo OS powered smartphone, the Nokia N9. We’ve already showed you a couple of rendered images of Nokia N9, which were leaked earlier. MeeGO OS has been jointly developed by Intel and Nokia. The handset is constructed in a one-piece unibody design, while the body made from polycarbonate material. The handset comes with new Nokia Maps, dedicated Drive app, Dolby Digital Plus support that turns any regular stereo audio into personal surround sound on headphones. The phone will be rocking with MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan.

The new Nokia N9 is having an innovative design with a simple gesture – a swipe. Users can use a lot of swipe based gestures. The homescreen is having 3 panels that you can swipe through, and provides fast access to applications, notifications, social networks, and to switching between activities. The three panels are include: Applications – place for installed apps, Events – for texts and calendar, call notifications and messages from social networking websites, and in the third panel users will get the access of the open applications in a grid of windows, and you will get access to live apps and recently launched apps. Users can pinch and zoom to see either 4 or 9 live apps at a time. The phone isn’t having the regular home keys. so that there would be plenty of space for applications on the touchscreen display of the handset. It seems the handset is lacking Adobe Flash capability.

It is having a new web browser, which is powered by WebKit 2 technology, which lets the access to a website even while it is still loading. The HLML5 support brings the rich web applications and offers fast video playback. Users can easily switch between the open windows on the browser.
