Nook Color Gets Android Froyo Update, Apps, Flash Now (Version 1.2.0)

Nook Color owners, the day hath finally cometh. You don’t need to hack your device anymore. As expected, Barnes & Noble is now rolling out a major firmware update (version 1.2.0), which brings the highly-awaited Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Nook Color reader device along with the Adobe Flash Player support for web browsing, downloads, games, improved performance, a pre-loaded e-mail app, bug fixes, and there is yet another mobile app store open for business – Nook Apps.

Nook Color users now can rock the approximately 125 apps, includes free apps and premium apps to purchase (priced below the $2.99 price point). NOOK Mail app brings the email services such as Gmail, AOL, Yahoo Mail, and Hotmail. This update also brings 150 digital magazines and newspapers (includes audio and video) along with more than 225 titles, NOOK Kids Read and Play books, NOOK Friends beta social network for sharing books, enhanced NOOK Books with audio and video, Adobe AIR feature, cooking helpers like Epicurious, and the Angry Bird game of course. Users now can read the content in landscape mode.

Interested developers now can join the developer program for free and devs will get 70% of the gross from any paid app purchased by B&N customers.

How To Download Nook Color Update Version 1.2.0

Nook Color owners will be automatically receiving the update over-the-air with the Wi-Fi connection on their devices over the "coming weeks." Nook Color owners can also download the manual update from the below link.

Download the firmware update (weighing 166MB) on any PC and copy it to the main directory of the Nook Color drive.

Automatic Recognition of the downloaded file –> Install –> Device Automatically Restarts –> Goes To Home screen –> Tap on the green “n” icon on the left bottom –> Update Completed successfully with version 1.2.0.

  1. It’s pretty much too little, too late. I’ll be using nookie-froyo instead. At this point, B&N should be enabling full market access.
