Google Photo Blur coming to Videos

Google, following the release of its Photo Unblur feature on the Pixel 7 series, is reportedly developing a new tool called Video Unblur. This tool is designed to improve the clarity of your videos, making them look crisp and sharp. In addition to Video Unblur, Google is also said to be working on several video effects that will allow users to add creative touches to their footage. With these new tools, Google aims to offer Pixel 7 series users the ability to create stunning videos that are visually captivating and enjoyable to watch.

Google Photos now features a new tool called Photo Unblur, which was introduced with the release of the Pixel 7 series. Utilizing the machine learning capabilities of the Tensor chip, this tool can sharpen images and improve their overall quality, regardless of whether the photos were taken recently on a Pixel phone or many years ago using an older camera. With Photo Unblur, users can restore and enhance their old and blurry photos to bring them back to life with improved sharpness and clarity.

The Magic Eraser tool, which was first introduced on the Pixel 6, has since become a premium feature available to other smartphones through Google One. However, Photo Unblur remains exclusive to Google’s newest phones. Despite this, there are rumors and leaks about the Pixel 8, and it appears that Google is working on bringing the same unblur tool to videos. This new Video Unblur tool is said to be in development and is designed to make your videos look sharper and clearer with the help of the Tensor chip’s machine learning capabilities. While it remains to be seen whether this feature will be exclusive to the Pixel 8 or will become available on other devices, it’s an exciting development for anyone who enjoys capturing and sharing videos.

The folks over 9to5Google have managed to forcibly enable the UI for Google’s Video Unblur, as seen in the screenshots below. However, at present, the tool does not seem to have any noticeable effect on videos, suggesting that it has not yet been fully developed. Once it’s operational, Video Unblur is expected to enhance the sharpness of previously captured videos with the help of machine learning.

This will be a significant addition to Google’s suite of imaging tools and will allow Pixel 8 users to create high-quality videos with improved clarity and definition. As with all features currently in development, it’s important to note that the final product may differ from what has been leaked or rumored.

It’s not surprising that Google is expanding its Photo Unblur feature, given the attention the company has given to popularizing the phrase “Fixed on Pixel.” With this in mind, it’s likely that Video Unblur will be a Pixel series exclusive and may debut later this year on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. While there is currently nothing in the code that ties Video Unblur to the Pixel series, it’s still early in development.

The addition of Video Unblur to Google’s imaging tools will undoubtedly enhance the overall user experience for Pixel 8 users, who can look forward to creating high-quality, sharp, and clear videos with their devices.

There are currently 14 video effects that have been planned, and some of these effects are quite self-explanatory based on their names. For instance, the “Chromatic” effect is expected to add a chromatic aberration effect, while “VHS” and “Super 8” are designed to mimic the styles of those classic video formats.

The other planned effects include “After School,” “B&W,” “Forward,” “Glassy,” “Golden,” “Moire,” “Multiply,” “Polaroid,” “Rainbow Rays,” “Reflect,” and “RGB Pulse.” Each of these effects likely has a distinct purpose, although their specific functions may not be immediately apparent based on their names alone.
