Pixel Fold Takes Center Stage in Latest Google x NBA Ad

Google’s highly anticipated foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, is generating buzz ahead of its official announcement at I/O 2023. In preparation for the unveiling, Google has released a new ad featuring NBA stars showcasing the phone’s features and capabilities.

The Google Pixel Fold, which is expected to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, is the star of the show in the new Google x NBA ad. The ad features the Pixel Fold primarily in a Chalk (white) color option, but the Obsidian (black) variant is also briefly shown. In addition to the Pixel Fold, the ad also features the unannounced Pixel 7a mid-ranger in several different color options.

The Pixel Fold has been given a star-studded promotion in a new Google ad ahead of its expected announcement at I/O 2023. Titled “Google Pixel x NBA: The Greatest Watch Party,” the 2 minute and 37-second video showcases NBA stars using the Pixel Fold. The ad features several close-up shots of the foldable device, giving viewers a detailed look at its design and features. It is worth noting that the ad might have been released prematurely as the Google Pixel account had teased on Twitter that it would be released on the day of the announcement.

In the ad, the Pixel Fold is displayed in various modes, including closed, opened to a 90-degree angle, and fully opened. The NBA stars in the ad are seen using the phone in various ways, such as playing games, watching videos, and taking photos. The video also showcases the phone’s foldable design and how it can be used in both tablet and phone modes.

The ad showcases the Pixel Fold’s multitasking capabilities by demonstrating how users can split the screen and run multiple apps side-by-side. It also highlights how the phone’s unique form factor allows for a more immersive gaming experience.

Throughout the video, several NBA stars are shown using the Pixel Fold. The ad ends with the tagline, “The Official Fan Phone of the NBA & WNBA.

The ad features the Pixel Fold in action, showcasing its foldable nature through various software experiences.

  • The internal display and its bezels are given close attention, with shots of the device being closed, open 90 degrees, and fully extended.
  • Notably, the ad features a Google Meet call, with NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo using the device seamlessly between the external and internal screens.
  • When the Pixel Fold is open at a 90-degree angle, Meet controls appear on the flat half. The ad also shows how the device can be used to take pictures with the rear lens while displaying a Google Camera viewfinder on the cover display.

Additionally, Google has made its presence known in this year’s NBA playoffs as it is the presenting sponsor for the event, and the Google Pixel brand is highly visible on courts. On the other hand, the NBA Finals will be presented by YouTube TV, starting from June 1. In the ad, you can see YouTube TV running on a television in the background. In a tweet posted on Tuesday, MVP Joel Embiid, who is 7′ 0″ tall, is shown holding the Pixel Fold.
