Sony Xperia 1 V Price Leaked by Chinese Tipster Ahead of Launch

Sony Xperia 1 V

Sony Mobile’s 2023 premium flagship, the Xperia 1 V, is set to be officially unveiled at the new product launch event on the 11th of May. However, the exterior of this latest Xperia has already been revealed through the “flying signboard” image and others.

We already have a rough idea of the specs, including a new camera sensor. Now the only thing that remains is the price, which is a point of interest for many. Well-known Weibo leaker Zackbucks has leaked the price of the Xperia 1 V in China.

Xperia 1 V to be Cheaper than Predecessor, but More Expensive than Expected

Zackbucks has responded to users’ expectations that the Xperia 1 V will be released for around 6,000 Chinese yuan by stating that it cannot be purchased at that price and will be priced at 8,000 yuan (roughly translates to $1243). The Xperia 1 IV, the previous model, was released in China with a price tag of 8,499 yuan (roughly translates to $1322), making the Xperia 1 V around 6% cheaper than its predecessor.

On the other hand, the Xperia 1 V is expected to feature the latest “LYTIA” sensor with a new two-layer transistor-stacked structure. This sensor is said to cost twice as much as the traditional sensor used in the previous Xperia models, making the camera module alone significantly more expensive to manufacture.

As a result, some industry experts speculate that the price of the Xperia 1 V could be significantly higher than its predecessor. While the exact price is still unknown, the advanced camera technology and improved features in the Xperia 1 V suggest that it may be a more costly flagship smartphone than its predecessor.

It is worth noting that last year, a leaker on ESATO claimed that the price of the Xperia 1 V would be lower than the previous model for the first time in the 1 series. In hindsight, this information may have been correct, which gives hope to those who are hoping for a lower price. However, the inclusion of the new and more expensive “LYTIA” sensor in the camera module may also drive up the manufacturing cost of the device, making it difficult to predict the final price of the Xperia 1 V.

By the way, the release price of the domestic carrier version of Xperia 1 IV was in the early 190,000 yen range (12,400 yuan). If this information is correct and there is a similar price change for the domestic carrier version as well, the price of the Xperia 1 V for NTT Docomo and au could be in the late 170,000 yen range to the early 180,000 yen range (11,100 yuan).

The Xperia 1 V is rumored to have a significantly improved camera performance in low-light conditions Despite the increased manufacturing costs, the Xperia 1 V is expected to be more affordable than its main rival, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which could make it a popular choice in the domestic market. If this turns out to be true, it is likely that the popularity of the Xperia 1 V will increase rapidly in Japan. Stay tuned for the latest information on the new and upcoming Xperia.
