Sony Xperia T/TX Getting Wi-Fi Mirroring Update

A new update is reportedly headed out to Sony’s Xperia T and Xperia TX handsets this week. The update is set to roll out to markets globally. The new firmware is bringing a set of new features and enhancements. This is not Android 4.1 or 4.2 Jelly Bean update. Android version still remains at v4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Here’s the full rundown of the new features that are coming with the new update

Wi-Fi Miracast Display Mirroring

Recently, Android Team detailed the new feature called Miracast Wireless Display in the upcoming Android 4.2 Jelly Bean build. Sony is bringing Wi-Fi Miracast display mirroring functionality for Xperia T and TX phones, that lets you to share share photos, videos, games, maps, emails and music to your HDTV.

Extended Standby Mode

The new “extended standby mode” lets you to increase the standby time by up to 4 times. It will make the phone goes into a “deep sleep” overnight by disabling the mobile data and Wi-Fi connectivity, but the handset will get SMS/MMS messages, notifications and phone calls. You can bring back the handset from standby time just by touching the screen and all of its functions will behave normal. Users can toggle this function on and off in power settings and there’s a special setting for this features in Sony’s Power Save application.

Sony’s Media Apps

You will also get some minor improvements and tweaks to a set of the apps including Movies, WALKMAN, Gallery and Bravia Engine.

WALKMAN app has got an updated interface and it will be changing colours to reflect the track’s album art. Album app will introduce higher contrast, depth and sharpness in photos and videos using the Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology.

HD Voice

The update brings the most awaited HD Voice support for the Xperia T handset, to provide better phone calls with “more natural sound filtering out distracting background noise.’, making it easier to recognize voices in noisy environments. The HD Voice Support won’t be available for Xperia TX handset. For now, it is exclusive for Xperia T only.

The new firmware update will be rolled out over-the-air (OTA) and you can also download it on your PC through Sony’s PC Companion / Bridge for Mac apps.
