As planned, the Vivo S17 series was officially unveiled in China today. This lineup comprises three smartphones: the Vivo S17, Vivo S17t, and Vivo S17 Pro. While the first two models share a similar design, they are equipped with different processors. In this article, we will focus on the Pro variant. The Vivo S17 Pro stands out as the priciest option among the trio, offering an enhanced range of features.
Vivo S17 Pro Features
The smartphone is centered around a large 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with a centered punch-hole design. It offers a resolution of 2800 x 1260 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 452 PPI. The display also impresses with its smoothness, thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the panel is a 10-bit panel, providing a high contrast ratio of 80,000,00:1 and a local peak brightness level of 1300 nits. It further incorporates 2160Hz PWM dimming technology for enhanced visual performance.
Although the Vivo S17 Pro may bear a resemblance to the Vivo S16 Pro at first glance, there are some subtle differences. The third camera on the S17 Pro is smaller in size, and the phone does not feature a back panel that changes colors. Instead, the brand has introduced a new blue color option that imitates the captivating beauty of the sea and stars. However, the S17 Pro maintains its sleek 3D design, achieved through curved glass on both the front and rear panels. It boasts a slim profile, measuring just 7.46mm in thickness and weighing approximately 188g.
Under the hood, the Vivo S17 Pro is equipped with a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8200 SoC. This chipset is accompanied by LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring smooth and efficient performance. As for the software, the device runs on OriginOS 3.0, which is based on the latest Android 13 operating system.
In terms of its camera capabilities, the smartphone features a triple camera system on the rear. It consists of a 50MP primary sensor, the Sony IMX766V, which benefits from optical image stabilization (OIS). Alongside, there’s an 8MP ultra-wide unit utilizing the Sony IMX355 sensor and a 12MP 2x telephoto shooter employing the Sony IMX663 sensor. The rear camera setup is complemented by a dual-tone LED flash and a soft light for improved low-light photography.
On the front side, the Vivo S17 Pro boasts a 50MP Samsung JN1 sensor dedicated to capturing high-quality selfies and facilitating video calls. This front-facing camera supports autofocus functionality and is accompanied by two LED flashlights positioned on either side, ensuring well-lit selfies even in challenging lighting conditions.
The Vivo S17 Pro offers a range of connectivity options to ensure a seamless user experience. These include support for dual SIM cards, 5G connectivity, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), NFC (Near Field Communication), and a USB 2.0 (Type-C) port for data transfer and charging purposes. Additionally, the phone features an in-screen fingerprint sensor for convenient and secure biometric authentication.
In terms of battery performance, the Vivo S17 Pro is equipped with a 4,600mAh battery. This sizable battery capacity ensures extended usage without frequent recharging. Moreover, the device supports 80W fast charging technology, allowing for swift and efficient charging times, ensuring minimal downtime.
In China, the Vivo S17 Pro will be available at the following price points:
- 8GB + 256GB variant: priced at ¥3,099 (approximately $435)
- 12GB + 256GB variant: priced at ¥3,299 (approximately $465)
- 12GB + 512GB variant: priced at ¥3,499 (approximately $490)
Customers will have the option to choose from three attractive color options: Mountain Sea Green, Ice White Jade, and Black. The smartphone is scheduled to go on sale starting from June 8th.
