Vivo X Flip Debuts with Snapdragon SoC and Zeiss Cameras

In addition to the second iteration of its smartphone/tablet, the company has also launched a clamshell foldable device. The Vivo X Flip is equally stylish and powerful, albeit based on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is still a respectable processor, accompanied by LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

With this product, Vivo has entered the market of vertically folding smartphones, following in the footsteps of devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, Oppo Find N2 Flip, and Motorola Razr. However, the Vivo X Flip sets itself apart from its competitors with a distinctive secondary display. Here are the prices and details of the brand’s new foldable flip phone!

The Vivo X Flip is a unique vertical folding phone with a sleek and stylish design. The phone features a large 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a center-aligned punch-hole cutout, providing a tall aspect ratio for an immersive viewing experience. The device boasts an FHD+ resolution, which is great for streaming and watching videos, and a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, making it easy to use even in bright outdoor settings.

The X Flip also comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, providing a smooth and seamless scrolling experience. Additionally, it supports HDR10+ content, ensuring that colors are vivid and lifelike. This feature is particularly beneficial for users who enjoy streaming high-quality videos on their devices.

In addition to its primary display, the X Flip also has a secondary screen on its back panel. The secondary screen is horizontal and spans from the left edge to the right. Measuring at 3 inches with an AMOLED panel, the secondary screen has a resolution of 682 x 422 pixels. This screen can be used for various purposes such as using payment codes, viewing information, NFC, music playback, and more. It provides added convenience and functionality to the device, making it an all-around useful tool for users.

The Vivo X Flip stands out with an embossed diamond cut pattern on the back panel, adding a premium feel to the design. The power button also serves as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for added security and convenience. The device boasts a Flex Mode, allowing users to prop up the phone in different angles for hands-free usage, such as video playback, calling, and photography.

To ensure a seamless folding experience, Vivo uses ultra-thin glass to achieve an almost invisible crease. The hinge mechanism is also built to last, with a claimed lifespan of up to 500,000 folds. Additionally, the Vivo X Flip boasts a number of camera features such as Super Night View 5.0, which enhances low-light photography, and AI-based portrait and beauty modes. The phone also has a number of video features, including 4K recording and ultra-stable video capabilities.

The collaboration with Zeiss for the cameras is an integral part of the Vivo X Flip. The foldable device boasts a dual-camera setup that comprises a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and an ultra-wide lens. The secondary camera is a 12MP sensor that further enhances the photography experience. On the front, the device features a 32MP front-facing camera positioned in a punch-hole cutout, which offers excellent selfie-taking capabilities.

The Vivo X Flip is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which is still a decently powerful chipset. It is paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, which should be sufficient for most users. The device is backed by a 4,400mAh battery unit that supports 44W fast charging, ensuring that it can be charged up quickly when necessary.

The foldable phone runs on Android 13-based OriginOS 3, which is Vivo’s custom skin that offers various customization options and features to enhance the user experience. It is optimized for foldable devices, ensuring that it takes full advantage of the X Flip’s unique form factor.

The phone also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button, making it convenient and easy to unlock the device securely. The device has a Flex Mode that allows users to prop it up for hands-free calling, video playback, and photography, making it easier to use in various situations.

The Vivo X Flip comes with a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, and it supports Wi-Fi for wireless internet connectivity. Bluetooth is also available on the device for wireless file sharing, audio streaming, and other uses. Additionally, the device features dual-band GPS for precise location tracking, and it supports 5G connectivity for high-speed mobile internet access.
