Vivo X Fold 2 will be world’s first SD 8 Gen 2 powered foldable; Battery specs tipped

Back in April 2022, vivo X Fold with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was launched in China. Later, the X Fold+ with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was launched in September 2022. Both these phone weren’t travelled to other global markets outside of China. The Chinese manufacturer is currently working on the successor of the aforementioned phones. There’s still a long way until the vivo X Fold 2 launches this year, supposedly in April, but the rumors already start floating in.

According to the prolific tipster, the vivo X Fold 2 will be arrived with latest Snapdragon flagship chipset. Digital Chat Station on Weibo, claims that the vivo X Fold 2 will be the world’s first foldable phone to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC onboard. Most of the recent flagship smartphones such as Galaxy S23 series, OnePlus 11, Moto X40, iQOO 11 Pro, Xiaomi 13 series were launched with the SD Gen 2 chipset.

DCS also revealed that the vivo X Fold2 will arrive with the 4,800 mAh battery (a couple of 2340mAh batteries), that is an upgrade of 200 mAh and 70 mAh over the X Fold and X Fold Plus’ batteries, respectively. The vivo X Fold2 will also support faster wired charging at 120W speeds, putting the X Fold’s 66W and X Fold+’ 80W charging speeds to shame.

As per the previous leaks, the next gen Fold 2 will be a thin and lightweight device. The inner foldable screen is rumored to transmit 2K resolution. Both the inner and cover displays are expected to support an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. For camera optics, it comes packed with a Sony IMX866 primary camera with OIS capability. The other details of the device are yet to be confirmed.

Vivo is also said to be working on another clamshell phone called vivo X Flip. We will know more details about both these foldable devices in the coming months.
